About

General Information:

My online name is NCN. NCN stands for No Credit Needed. I am in my mid-thirties, married, with 3 children.  I write about debt reduction – and the joy of being debt free.  If you are a fan of Twitter, feel free to follow my tweets.

I started No Credit Needed in April of 2005 so that I could track my debt reduction progress. In February of 2006, after getting out of debt, I tracked my progress as I saved a 6 months emergency fund. Since October of 2006, I have tracked my progress as I plan for retirement, save for my kids’ college educations, and try to live without borrowing money.

When do I post?

I have a full-time job (which I love, by the way) so I do most of my posting at night or on Saturdays. If I have meetings scheduled at night, I will squeeze some time in during the day.

Do my friends/family know about my blog?

YES! Many of them know about it but I’m not sure how many of them read it. Also, a few of my blogging friends know my “real” name. But, I like NCN, because it rocks!

Are you a personal finance professional?

NO! NO! NO! I do NOT give advice. I just like to talk about what I am doing and I like to encourage others to find their own success.

Do you make any money from your blog?

Yes, but not that much. I never started blogging to “make” money. I didn’t even know that making money was possible. But, over the past 2 years, I’ve learned a little about advertising and I make enough money so that the blog “pays for itself”.

Have your received any “media” attention?

I’m SO glad you asked! YES! In an absolutely surreal turn of events, my site was mentioned in the New York Times, I was interviewed by Jean Chatzky from Oprah Radio, and I was recently filmed by a television station from Atlanta. Trust me, I was NOT expecting this media attention, but I’m super-thrilled about it. I hope, that in some “small way” I can inspire other folks to save money and get out of debt.

Why do you refuse to use credit cards (or borrow money)?

I do not use credit cards because I do not NEED to use credit cards. I prefer to pay for items with cash. I do not plan on borrowing money. I do not like the idea of paying interest. So, I am trying to save enough money so that I can purchase automobiles, college educations, and a home, with cash.

How long do you plan on blogging?

I really, really enjoy writing. I also like talking about “personal” finance. So, I’ll keep writing as long as folks keep reading!

Do you have any personal finance blogs that you like to read?

YES! See that list on the right-hand side of this page? THOSE are the personal finance blogs that I read on a (very) regular basis. You should check them out!
