Having a career portfolio is must in today's job market. I read that the average length of time spent with a company now is 3.2 years. No more long term 30+ years and retiring with a nice watch. Personally I was with my previous employer for 6 years and now I am on my 4th month with my current employer.

I wish I had stockpiled all my achievements for the past 6 years instead of relying on my brain when getting my resume together. I vowed not to make that mistake again and have began to document all my achievements going forward and revamping my resume any time something new comes up.

Great series!

In the past I've updated my resume only when the need arose. My plan going forward is to update it when things actually happen - significant achievements, awards, etc. That way I won't forget the details, and I can keep documentation in a specific resume file. LinkedIn definitely reminds me to keep my info current.
