Ask for discounts, particularly with small businesses. I have obtained many discounts by asking "Do you have a pre-payment discount?" Most businesses have agreed to at least a 5% discount for up-front payment. This is along the lines of asking "Is that your best price?" which also often yields a discount, particularly if you do not need all of the options that are presented.

Hi! I was trying to email you a question from your contact form, but couldn't get it to work. It's a bit off... I just wanted to link to you on a post of mine, but am not sure whether to refer to you as "he" or "she"! If you could email me a response, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

freecycle.org has been a big money saver for our family. Free swing-set, free computer equipment, free children's clothes, free firewood, free television...that's just a few of the things we've received. It's a great system to keep stuff out of the landfill, and the prices can't be beat!
It is also great for getting those cluttery things out of your house without paying for disposal.

Use retailers price matching policies to save on the items you are looking to buy. Very rarely do people use these policies that the stores promote. Circuit City and Staples are two companies that are aggressive in this area.
