I cannot live without a credit card. But I managed to reduce my debt. I tried to learn more about credit deals , I found out all the details I could. Now I use my credit cards more wisely and I am not afraid of debts. Now I don’t think that credit cards are evil any more, but find them very useful and convenient tools that let to make life easier.

Good stuff, I found NCN's step #2 to be the most important part of my debt repayment plan. Figuring out how much total debt we had was a serious wake up call.

Just to reiterate -- I too have been climbing out of debt following most of NCN's steps myself. I started doing this long before I met NCN. It's the steps that work! Not anything magical about NCN or myself.

My use of the steps reflect the fact that I'm single. So the only person I need to consult with is me. This is both a blessing and a curse, since I only have to convince myself, but at the end of the day I have nobody to blame but myself if I fall off course or WANT to fall off course.

NCN's steps are a good solid plan to getting rid of the debt. I'll add one more step:

11. Audit your current monthly expenses and look for creative ways to cut costs. For me this led to several things:

--Taking public transportation to work, substituting a monthly $54 bus pass instead of $150 in monthly parking fees (and also meaning I buy gas much less frequently)

--Raising car insurance deductibles since I hardly drive anymore, lowering my insurance by over $200/year. (I don't advise this if you drive a lot or on the freeway though.)

--Cutting my cable to the basic $14 package.

--Eliminating a lot of magazine subscriptions and hobbies where I was paying to take classes. Eliminating a costly gym membership.

--Eliminating dry cleaning from my laundry expenses.

When you are spending less each month, you have more to pay on debt. Do what makes sense for you!

Make War on Debt!
