Problems With TD Ameritrade

POSTED February 27, 2007 under College

For the past three days, I’ve been trying to transfer $2200 from my checking account to my daughter’s TD Ameritrade ESA.  TD Ameritrade has the lamest cash management / transfer system I’ve ever tried to use.  First, you can only link ONE checking or savings account to your brokerage account.  Second, the only way to link an account is to send in actual paperwork with a cancelled check.  It’s 2007!  I wish that I had never opened an account with TD Ameritrade.  I’ve spoken to their customer service, but I’ve received three different “solutions” to my problem.  As for now, I’m stuck with sending in a check to fund the account.  Actually, I’ve got to send in TWO checks, one marked “2006 Contribution” and the other marked “2007 Contribution”.  When, oh when, will all financial institutions be as easy-to-use as ING Direct?

I’m looking at my tdameritrade account now and I’m using 2 out of a max 5 accounts linked (portfolio tab, deposits and withdrawls sub tab) So your information about only linking one account is incorrect.

I just added a 3rd checking account using only a routing number and account number. No snail mail or paper work required. So your information on how to link accounts is also incorrect.

You are probably having trouble linking accounts because the account names don’t match. Making it difficult in that case is good, because you don’t want some hacker to easily drain your account, (they’d need a checking accout with your name).

Why not switch to Scottrade? Cheaper commissions, and less hassle..

Ing Direct is pretty good but when I wanted to setup a new link to my new checking account I still had to go the old fashioned route of sending them a check from my new account. Then waiting for the verification… I always find this annoying.
    Otherwise great service…

  9. Scott Trade is very bad November 19, 2007 4:38 pm

I closed my account with Scottrade because they’re so stupid making my life miserable. I simplely wanted to buy CD, they said I have to open scottrade account first, I was rush and didn’t want to open an account, I had an old account with no money in it for 8 yrs, this account has joint name with my ex-wife that I didn’t know at the latest moment, I deposited my money after divorce was settled 6 yrs ago, Scottrade still want me to share my money with my ex-wife. I explained and showed them the decree, and they still wanted to make me share my money with my ex-wife.

Never again shall I return to this broker.
