So, I have a new hobby. Raising Chickens… Seriously, stop laughing. We live in a rural part of our town, and I used to have chickens when I was a teenager, and I wanted to teach my daughter about raising them. So far, I have not purchased my chickens. I want to have about 12 chickens in all, and they will be in a neat, well-maintained pen in the very back corner of our yard. They will not be visible from the road that goes by our home, or from our front or back porches. They are in a “hidden” section of our yard, between our chain-link fence and the neighbor’s fence. I have created a 3 foot high pen for them, that is about 24 feet by 24 feet, and I am in the process of constructing a coop for them. I will post pictures after I purchase my chickens and after I finish the coop. (I like brown egg laying chickens, preferably Buff Orpingtons…Pictured)
Quick weight loss update…Doing very well, sticking to the weight watchers program.
Quick debt reduction…Not a lot to say, and sending 65 bucks a day to one of 3 debt categories, and am on track to be totally debt free by 10-10-2005.
Check out the Verge of the Fringe podcast and blog. Funniest stuff EVER, and Lance has been so kind as to link my sight on his blog…THANKS, LANCE.
Okay, so I am bored with the current weight loss plan I am on. So, I have decided on a brand new strategy. First, I will pick a diet plan (weight watchers, low-carb, south beach) etc. and use that plan for exactly 1 week. I have a list of at least 12 plans to go through, and I will use each plan once in the next 12 weeks. I will begin each plan on Sunday, and use it until Saturday. I will weight myself on Saturdays and Sundays, for my beginning and ending weights each week. Why am I doing this? Because, the reason I stop every diet is the fact that I get bored. Now, I know that certain diets are designed to work over a period of time, but this 12 week program is designed to find out which diet I like the best, and which one(s) I could stick to long term. Thanks, and check back soon for updates.
OH YEAH…This week’s diet? Weight Watchers, counting points.
Last night, I was watching a PBS special about prison, and prisoners coming out of prison and experiencing freedom, some for the first time in many, many years. It was an extremely interesting show. Some of the ex-prisoners adjusted quickly to their new surroundings, and 2 or 3 really flourished. Others, however, found it too difficult to deal with being away from the “structure” of the prison, and soon, they fell back into their previous illegal practices. What does this have to do with finances? Well, I am experiencing a kind of financial “prison” release. I am not all-the-way out yet, but, I have a great handle on my financial situation: We are living on a budget. We have an emergency fund. I know where every dollar that I make is going to go BEFORE I receive my paycheck. I am on a kind of financial “probation”. I will not consider myself to be “free” until I am out of debt, but I am already enjoying many of the benefits of “pre-” freedom. But, as I was watching the program last night, I realized that there are many pitfalls which face any newly released “prisoner.” What can I do to prepare myself for October 10, 2005, the day that I anticipate my on personal release from financial “jail”. Well, I can plan, I can prepare, and I can anticipate what new challenges will lay ahead. How much will I invest? How much should I spend? Will I reward myself with a vacation, or will I become even tighter with my money? Freedom… wonderful, beautiful, difficult, powerful, scary, and awesome.
